Hours and after-hours care in Sunshine Coast

Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.

Queensland does not observe daylight saving, so from October to April our 8am–6pm Sydney weekday hours are 7am–5pm on the Sunshine Coast.

Using Doccio in Sunshine Coast

What it's like here

The Sunshine Coast has grown quickly and practice capacity in the newer suburbs around Caloundra South and the hinterland can be stretched. Online requests suit the administrative things and free up local appointments for care that needs hands on it.

Prescriptions and pharmacies

Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in the Sunshine Coast that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.

Certificates and employers

Sunshine Coast employers, the University of the Sunshine Coast and TAFE Queensland accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence for an absence, with a verification reference on every Doccio certificate.

When to be seen in person instead

Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. The Sunshine Coast has Medicare Urgent Care Clinic services for urgent problems that are not emergencies.

In an emergency, call 000.
