Hours and after-hours care in Brisbane

Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.

Brisbane does not observe daylight saving. From early October to early April our 8am–6pm Sydney weekday hours are 7am–5pm in Brisbane, and the after-hours rate starts from 5pm your time.

Using Doccio in Brisbane

What it's like here

Brisbane's population has grown quickly and practice capacity has not kept pace evenly across the city — the outer south and west are tighter than the inner suburbs. For routine administrative requests, an online consultation avoids the trip entirely.

Prescriptions and pharmacies

Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in Brisbane that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.

Certificates and employers

Brisbane employers, TAFE Queensland and the city's universities accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence for an absence, and every Doccio certificate carries a verification reference.

What it costs

Prices are the same everywhere in Australia. There is no membership and no subscription.

When to be seen in person instead

Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. Brisbane has satellite hospitals and Medicare Urgent Care Clinics for urgent problems that are not emergencies.

In an emergency, call 000.
