Hours and after-hours care in TAS
Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.
Tasmania keeps the same clock as Sydney, so those hours are your local hours all year.

What it's like here
Tasmania has some of the longest waits for a general practice appointment in the country, and a number of practices have closed their books to new patients. That makes an online option useful for the routine requests, while anything that needs an examination still belongs in person.
Prescriptions and pharmacies
Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in Tasmania that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.
Certificates and employers
Tasmanian employers, TasTAFE and the University of Tasmania accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence for an absence. Every Doccio certificate carries a verification reference.
What it costs
Prices are the same everywhere in Australia. There is no membership and no subscription.
- $191-day medical certificateA single day off work, study or caring duties.
- $292-day certificate or repeat prescriptionTwo consecutive days off, or a repeat of a stable, existing medication.
- $59Doctor careA standard GP consultation, during business hours.
- $79Doctor care, after hoursThe same doctor care outside 8am–6pm Mon–Fri.
When to be seen in person instead
Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. Tasmania has Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in the main centres for urgent problems that are not emergencies.
In an emergency, call 000.
