Hours and after-hours care in WA

Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.

Western Australia is two hours behind Sydney for most of the year, and three hours behind during eastern daylight saving. Our 8am–6pm Sydney weekday hours are 6am–4pm in Perth for most of the year, and 5am–3pm over the summer months. After-hours pricing applies outside the Sydney window, so a late-afternoon request in WA is often an after-hours one.

Using Doccio in Western Australia

What it's like here

Western Australia covers a third of the continent, and for people working in the regions or on rosters, getting to a practice during opening hours is often the hardest part. The time difference matters here more than anywhere else, so the hours below are worth reading before you start.

Prescriptions and pharmacies

Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in Western Australia that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.

Certificates and employers

WA employers, TAFEs and universities accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence for an absence, and every Doccio certificate carries a verification reference.

What it costs

When to be seen in person instead

Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. WA has urgent care clinics and Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Perth and several regional centres for urgent problems that are not emergencies.

In an emergency, call 000.
