Medical Certificates in Sydney

You can request a medical certificate online in Sydney from an Australian-registered doctor, without travelling to a practice. Our doctors are registered in Australia and can assess anyone located in New South Wales, including everywhere across Greater Sydney. Tell Doccio what has happened, the dates involved and what your work or study requires, and the doctor decides whether a certificate is appropriate and what it should say.

What's on the certificate

  • Your name and the relevant dates
  • A statement that you were medically unfit for work or study
  • The doctor's name and AHPRA registration number
  • The assessment date and actual issue date
  • A Doccio verification reference

Medical certificates in Sydney

Same-day appointments are hard to get across much of Sydney and bulk-billing has thinned out, so a short absence certificate is often the thing people cannot easily arrange quickly. Requesting one online avoids the trip and the waiting room.

Sydney employers treat a Doccio certificate as an ordinary Australian medical certificate. Fair Work guidance recognises a medical certificate as evidence for sick or carer's leave, and each Doccio certificate carries a reference an HR team can check without seeing anything about your health.

The University of Sydney, UNSW, UTS, Macquarie and Western Sydney all accept a medical certificate in support of special consideration or an extension. Check your faculty's own wording and deadline, since these differ between courses.

Requests are reviewed 8am–6pm Monday to Friday, Sydney time, which is your local time. Outside that window the after-hours rate applies.

Duration and pricing

A one-day request costs $19 and a two-day request costs $29. For three days or more, a doctor consultation costs $59 during business hours or $79 after hours. Paying for a longer request does not guarantee a longer certificate.

Business hours 8am–6pm Mon–Fri

Who this is for

  • People located in New South Wales who are unwell and need evidence of an absence
  • Employees asked for documentation for a missed shift or day
  • Students needing evidence for an extension or special consideration request
  • Carers who needed time away to look after someone else

What a certificate can't do

  • It is not a fitness-for-duty clearance for a safety-critical role
  • It is not a substitute for an examination when one is needed
  • It cannot be backdated beyond what the doctor can clinically justify

Every certificate carries a Doccio verification reference, so an employer or provider in Sydney can confirm it is genuine at doccio.com.au/verify. Verification checks the document against the issued record — it does not open your health information to anyone.
