A video consultation is a healthcare appointment using a live audio and visual connection. It lets the patient and clinician see one another while discussing a health concern. Video may provide useful visual information, but it does not replace every part of an in-person examination. Australian Government telehealth guidance

Prepare the setting

Choose a private, well-lit place where you can hear and speak comfortably. Check the connection, battery and camera permissions before the appointment. Avoid joining while driving or while carrying out a task that prevents attention to the discussion.

Have your current location, contact number, medicine list and relevant records ready. If another person is present, introduce them and explain their role. Ask the service about interpreter or accessibility support rather than assuming a family member must translate.

Use the camera thoughtfully

The clinician may ask to see a visible concern, but you should understand what is being requested and why. Follow secure clinic instructions for any images. Do not send sensitive photographs through an unrelated messaging account or public help channel.

A video image can be affected by lighting, camera quality and positioning. The doctor may still need an in-person examination. Do not assume that showing a body part briefly proves that every relevant finding has been assessed. Medical Board telehealth guidelines

Agree on a backup and a plan

If the connection fails, know whether the clinic will call, reconnect or reschedule. A technical interruption should not leave you uncertain about whether advice or a prescription was completed. Contact the service to clarify before acting on an unfinished discussion.

Doccio's online doctor information explains the booking pathway; confirm the available consultation format when booking. A doctor decides what is appropriate and may recommend another care setting. Before you finish, ask how documents and results will be communicated, when follow-up is needed and which changes should prompt urgent help rather than another routine video appointment.
